Divining The Resurrection

the life only tells half the story

    Basic Info
    Name:Shade Embry
    Birthdate:07-09
    Location:San Diego, California, United States
    Bio
"To let perceptions, or the fear of perceptions, stop me from doing it would have been a mistake, would have been wrong."
    - Vince Vaughn

Name: Brittany. I also answer to Shade Embry, which is the fault of my evil twin Ethan Embry (Dragnet). Close friends tend to call me Brit, but I hate that, so don't use it.

Age: 20 going on 28. When I was in middle school, online friends routinely asked me which college I was attending, and I've always felt more akin to my early-twenties muse and role models than people my age. In person, people ask my mother which middle school I'm going to. You figure it out.

Hometown: San Diego, California. Home of the San Diego Chargers. While I was born in Torrance (home of Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Sunnydale High School) and raised in a forgettable small town, I've spent 90% of my life in San Diego and consider myself a San Diegan. The Chargers might suck, but I hang in there with them every year. I'm a former Padres fan who quit in 2005 after the fire sale of the team, including my beloved RHP Adam Eaton. I love being a Southern Californian because it gives me so many opportunities to meet awesome people, and I've met some great actors, writers, producers and other types over the years.

Reputation: Precedes me. I've met a number of reasonably famous people, my friends include two ESPN finalists and a world-class poker player, I'm a professional sportswriter. I'm also a two-time participant in ESPN's Dream Job competition and I was part of IFC's Ultimate Film Fanatic and FOX's Pitch-O-Rama. In 2000, I won the Governor's Medallion for Creative Writing when I attended the California State Summer School for the Arts. I'm an amateur poker player, and I placed 13th in the San Marcos satellite 2004 College World Series of Poker. This stuff tends to follow me around.

Current Residence: An unmemorable small town between Los Angeles and San Diego.

School: California State University, San Marcos. Currently in my last semester as a Communications major with a minor in Criminology/Criminal Justice. Yes, I graduated high school early. Yes, I skipped a grade. We're really kind of past that now. We're actually into the "Why couldn't I have gone to a school that actually has some sort of real athletic program and real extracurricular activities?" tirade.

Occupation: By day, I'm a retail cashier. I'm also a senior writer for eSports Media Group, an Internet sports media firm. I serve as their poker and baseball analyst, kind of like a cross between Phil Gordon on Celebrity Poker Showdown and Karl Ravech on Baseball Tonight (two of my favorite shows, BTW). My co-workers include my close friend and ESPN Dream Job finalist Casey Stern, and I actually got to meet Phil Gordon in August 2004 and now count him as a friend. I can't say the job doesn't have perks.

Friends and Heroes: My best friend in the whole world is a guy named Chris Jourdier, whom I went to high school with. There's Allison, whom I shared a dorm room with for a month. A good buddy of mine who's still local is my friend Leticia, who has a blog here at [info]tishamoon. I'm honored to call a number of heroes friends, including Dream Job finalists Casey Stern and Zach Selwyn, and professional poker player Phil Gordon. Desmond Harrington is my muse. My career owes itself to the amazing Aaron Sorkin as well as David Mamet, Ian Rankin and Andy McNab. Favorite actors include Hugh Laurie, Josh Charles, Paul Rudd, Jack Davenport, Neal McDonough and Felicity Huffman. My top five musical artists/groups are, in order, Brian Culbertson, Breaking Benjamin, Evanescence, Barenaked Ladies and Dave Koz.

Favorites: I love movies and TV, the more obscure and challenging the better. I also watch lots of ESPN - SportsCenter, Baseball Tonight and Pardon The Interruption are staples, as are poker and classic baseball (as Desmond says, "If there were ever such a thing, I'm the guy."). Favorite shows include House, 24, Sports Night, Spooks/MI-5, Ultraviolet, Coupling, Dragnet and any sort of British crime drama that happens to be on BBC America. Currently, I watch Medical Investigation, Desperate Housewives, and Dinner For Five. My favorite movies include Glory, The Spanish Prisoner, S.W.A.T. and Year of the Gun.

Dislikes: Religious fanaticism (this includes people who have to bring religion up all the time), political overcorrectness, Dodger fans, Raider fans, narrow-minded individuals, self-centered types and people who don't pay attention to obvious signage.

Hobbies: I'm a writer of all sorts - mostly screenwriting, but I do fiction, fan fiction, playwriting, even radio dramas from time to time. My fan fiction series have won numerous awards, and my 24 series is routinely mistaken for the writing of series creators Joel Surnow and Bob Cochran (no shit). I play poker, and I'm a former street hockey goalie who plays hard, as well as a baseball pitcher who throws hard. Other than that, I read a lot of books of all sorts, do limited LJ roleplaying, and watch a lot of movies and TV. I enjoy people and conversations, but I don't get a lot of those, so I blow things up in MechWarrior.

The quote that describes me perfectly: "You will listen to her, either because she's loud or you don't understand her." - Desmond Harrington

    Desmond Harrington Fan
    Desmond Harrington is my muse.
